Lung Cancer Awareness and Screening for Chinese Americans  

Lung cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed among Chinese American males and the fourth most common cancer diagnosed among Chinese American females. The Lung Cancer Awareness and Screening Project aims to increase awareness of lung cancer in Chinese Americans and to promote early lung screening for cancer when the disease is most curable. As of 2021, the US Preventive Services Task Force recommends low-dose computed tomography (low-dose CT) lung screening for adult individuals who fit the following criteria: 

• 50-80 years of age; 
• Have a 20 pack-per-year or more smoking history; and 
• Current smoker or have quit within the past 15 years 

If an individual fits the criteria, the screening should be covered by their insurance.  

The focus of the lung cancer awareness and screening campaign is a culturally tailored website available in both English and Chinese that educates the priority audience on the benefits, eligibility criteria, and process of screening for lung cancer through patient stories and animations, an eligibility quiz, infographics, and resources for physicians and individuals. This campaign is led by NYU Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) and supported by a grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation.
