Regional Community Health Resources and Needs Assessments (Regional CHRNA)

The Regional Community Resources and Needs Assessment (Regional CHRNA) was a collaborative survey effort between NYU Center for the Study of Asian American (CSAAH) and three community-based organizations embedded in Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander-serving communities: Center for Pan Asian Community Services, Inc. (CPACS) in Atlanta, Georgia, National Tongan American Society (NTAS) in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Asian Pacific Community in Action (APCA) in Phoenix, Arizona.

CSAAH and our three partners collaboratively worked to develop and launch a community health survey to better understand the experiences of the Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders living in each of these respective regional metropolitan areas. Community partner organizations each have direct connection to the regionally and culturally unique communities they serve, leading the local survey effort in 2021. Reports present key findings of community food access, vaccination access and/or hesitancy, language access, or economic concerns – click the links below to view the reports!

Each Regional CHRNA survey instrument was developed in close partnership with community partners. The survey was administered online throughout 2021. The web survey could be completed in several languages besides English, including: Burmese, traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Korean, Nepalese, Vietnamese (Atlanta survey); Samoan or Tongan (Salt Lake City survey); Samoan, Tongan, Vietnamese, Tagalog (Phoenix survey). To participate in the survey, individuals needed to be 18 years of age or older, self-identify as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and as a resident in the specific metropolitan area where that survey was administered (Atlanta, GA, Salt Lake City, UT, Phoenix, AZ).

Our Regional CHRNA Community Reports each contain an Executive Summary, followed by Key Findings, and Overall Recommendations which may be most applicable to the local context in 2022, but which are also useful for consideration when looking to build resilience for future pandemics. Summary findings include regional resources or opportunities to address community food access, vaccination access and/or hesitancy, language access, or economic concerns.

Our Regional CHRNA builds on CSAAH’s prior rounds of CHRNA surveying conducted in Asian American communities in New York City (NYC).
